A bushfire started at Pinery (approx. 79kms north of Adelaide) at midday on Wednesday 25th November 2015.
The bushfire is currently moving in a north-easterly direction towards Kapunda, affecting dozens of communities along the way.
The blaze has so far destroyed 16 homes, outbuildings, farm machinery and 85,000 hectares of grass, cropping land and scrub. The fire has a perimeter of 210km.
Fire activity remains around many townships including Owen, Hamley Bridge, Tarlee, Freeling, Wasleys, Kapunda, Greenock and surrounding areas. 360 CFS firefighters are currently fighting the fire on the ground along with 19 water-bombers from the sky.
The cause of the fire at this stage remains unknown.
Unfortunately, back in January this year, South Australia went through another devastating bushfire. The fire began in the outer northern suburb of Sampson Flat. It later travelled south-east towards Kersbrook and across the Mount Lofty Ranges toward the Adelaide Hills.
The fire began on 2 January 2015 during a day of extreme heat (44.1°C) and lasted until 9 January 2015.
27 houses and 125 outbuildings were destroyed by the fire. There were no human fatalities as a result of the bushfires; and the total cost was estimated to be more than A$13 million.
One of our Innovact employees, who owns a large property in Gawler, went into the affected areas to rescue horses and livestock. This included housing 21 horses and a cow until the owners were able to take them back. It is times like this that communities come together to help each other out.
